The delicious combination of iced tea and lemonade has been around for centuries, as simple as it is refreshing.
First pioneered in Old Virginia in the 1870’s, the drink exploded in popularity following the St. Louis 1904 World’s Fair. Tea farm owner Richard Blechynden, inspired by the hot weather, decided to add ice to the free samples he was giving away. The drink was a roaring success; cool and refreshing in the Missouri heat, and has since become enjoyed the world over.
Our pals at Good & Proper Tea are some of the very best in the tea business. Sourcing the best possible, whole leaf teas from around the world, they are totally dedicated to ensuring every cup of tea tastes just as it should.
We’re huge fans of Good & Proper here at Square Root HQ, and have even worked together in the past on an Iced Tea exclusively for Bleecker Burger. Hence, it was a no-brainer to get Emilie on board to come up with this recipe using Good & Proper’s Rooibos and our seasonal Citrus Crush soda.
Here’s what Emilie had to say:
“Thanks to the broad spectrum of flavours that tea offers, from blacks, greens and oolongs to a rainbow of herbal infusions, the possibilities when lining them up alongside the delicious fruit sodas from Square Root are endless.
“From our ruby-red Hibiscus with their Rhubarb Soda to perennial favourite Brockley Breakfast spliced with the Bergamot Soda (like a deconstructed Earl Grey!) there are a lot of delicious drink ideas to work with. However, this one was definitely our favourite (that is, until Square Root bring out their next seasonal soda and we get mixing all over again!)
“The rich, sweet character of Rooibos is often paired with orange, but the blood orange, pink grapefruit & lemons that go into this delicious soda add a whole other layer of complexity, making it equally delicious as a refreshing summer refreshment or a non-alcoholic evening serve in autumn.”
